digitale Erschließung kultureller Überlieferung:
Architektur- und Ingenieurzeichnungen der deutschen Renaissance
Digitalisierung und wissenschaftliche Erschließung des Zeichnungsbestandes von 1500 - 1560
Das von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderte Projekt geht auf eine Idee von Marc Rohrmüller (Dresden) und Stephan Hoppe (damals Köln) im Jahr 2007 zurück. Es konnte bislang über 3000 Blatt an Architektur- und Ingenieurzeichnungen der Zeit von 1500 – 1650 aus zahlreichen deutschen Archiven, Bibliotheken und Museen erstmals umfassend verzeichnen, wissenschaftlich erschließen, digitalisieren und dauerhaft über ein Fachportal unter dem Dach der Deutschen Fotothek in Dresden für Forschung und Lehre online zur Verfügung stellen. Alle Zeichnungen sind öffentlich online zugänglich.
Eine Erweiterung des Bestandes und Intensiverung damit verbundener Forschungsaktivitäten sind geplant. Antrags-Partner sind die Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden, die Abteilung Architekturgeschichte des Kunsthistorischen Institutes der Universität zu Köln, das Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte in Berlin sowie in Zukunft die Professur für Bayerische Kunstgeschichte in München.

Der Schwerpunkt "Architektur als Medium / Medien der Architektur" soll Projekte und Forschungen dokumentieren und fördern, die Architektur unter dem Blickwinkel des symbolischen und medialen Handelns betrachten. Das gilt hier sowohl für historische als auch aktuelle Bauten.
Ziel ist es, entsprechende vorhandene Ansätze zu bündeln und Forschungen zur Architekturgeschichte mit eher jungen und bislang „architekturfernen“ Disziplinen bzw. Methoden wie Medienwissenschaft oder Bildwissenschaft zu verknüpfen.

Virtual reconstructions play a decisive role in the exploration of residential and courtly architecture. Especially in the communication of scientific results, "non-built” media such as reconstruction drawings, maps, pictures and film play an important part.
Whether it is the reconstruction of a historical condition, the explanation of usage contexts, the tracing of parent networks of relationship or the communication with different clients, the research is necessarily bound to rely on virtual reconstructions representing lost missing states of all kinds. Thus, the notion and understanding of courtly architecture is greatly influenced by such models.
The range of virtual models has considerably expanded through the use of digital techniques. Technology is increasingly used for the review of theoretic models and for representation purposes. Especially the digital integration of entire academic workflows, of databases, thematic maps, GIS techniques, CAD drawings, and video has highly innovative potential.
The question arises as to the qualities, possibilities and limitations of different techniques for reconstruction. What are the perspectives resulting from the use of virtual models for science and for the medial presentation of research results?
At the meeting in Munich 2012, the use of virtual reconstructions and models in research into late middle ages and early modern residences and courts should be discussed in four panels:
I. Typology and medial use of virtual models representing residential architecture
II. Virtual models as spaces of knowledge
III. Sharpness and blur in the virtual model
IV. Virtual Identities

This session focuses on the architecture of the court residence in the period 1400-1700. It aims more specifically at examining the interaction between palace architecture and the ‘ceremonial’ – the set of rules which regulates and codifies human interaction in this space. To the informed observer, a palace’s architecture carries multiple connotations, representing power, lineage, and tradition versus innovation. Patterns of court ceremonial are perceived by the palace’s owners, inhabitants, and visitors alike in many different ways and expressed in many different sources. The ceremonial influences the material form of the palace, from its disposition (spatial organization) to its decoration. Conversely, the palace’s architecture, its space and form, serves as a barometer for the major evolutionary steps of the court ceremonial, and thus of the structure and composition of the court in general. A particular issue is the growth of public versus private spaces, and the nature of privacy.
Furthermore, the palace was a prominent place of cultural exchange in early modern Europe. Due to the numerous, convoluted dynastic relationships between them, the world of the courts 1400-1700 constituted a network of international character on a truly European scale, long before the age of Versailles. These international relationships pervaded all aspects of court life; the architecture of the courts cannot be adequately understood without studying these exchanges and influences. Thus the scope of this session is deliberately pan-European. It similarly transcends the common boundaries of styles and stylistic periods, and encourages an international, comparative, transdisciplinary perspective.

Stiftungsverein für Kunst- und Kulturvermittlung im digitalen Zeitalter
Im Oktober 2010 haben namhafte Persönlichkeiten aus Wissenschaft, Kulturbetrieb und Wirtschaft einen gemeinnützigen Verein zur Förderung von Kunst- und Kulturvermittlung mit Sitz in Köln gegründet. Der Verein fördert, konzipiert, vernetzt und veröffentlicht Projekte, deren Vermittlungsgegenstand vor allem aus dem Feld der Bildenden Künste, der Architektur, des Denkmalschutzes und der Kunstwissenschaften stammt. Ein Arbeitsschwerpunkt liegt auf der Entwicklung und Sichtbarmachung von Leuchtturmprojekten, die auch neue Medien sinnvoll in bestehende Strukturen integrieren oder in beispielhafter Weise auf den Medienwandel reagieren.
